Surrey Police Safer Neighbourhoods sent an email earlier this week to local residents in Elmbridge Surrey with a typo. They end the Email ” Be vigilante and if you see anything suspicious contact Surrey Police ” We think they mean Vigilant!!!
I have withheld the sender’s name of this email to avoid embarresment but it made me and few others chuckle!

There has been a recent increase in day time burglaries in Elmbridge where garden sheds, garages and dwellings have been targeted. The intruders gain entry to dwellings through insecure, small windows, and used implements to get hold of car keys through letterboxes. Various items have been taken such as cars, jewellery, cash, tools and garden equipments.
A burglary at home is a distressing and devastating experience but there are simple crime prevention measures that can reduce home crime:
- make sure your doors and windows are secured
- burglar alarms and lights will deter thieves
- do not leave car, door or window keys on view, or within reach of a letterbox or window
- register valuable property at http://www.immobilise.com/
- property mark all valuable items with your post code and house number
- do not keep large amount of cash at home
- make sure your home looks occupied while you are away
Burglars aren’t only interested in the valuables inside your property. Equipment kept in garage, shed or garden can be tempting or used to break into a house.
- use good quality fixings and padlock to secure shed and garage
- install a shed alarm
- property mark valuable tools and equipment with your post code and/or house number
- lock tools and equipments away
- position your wheelie bin away from accessible windows
Be vigilante and if you see anything suspicious contact Surrey Police
