Queen Diamond Jubilee New Bank Holiday in 2012 0

There will be a new bank holiday on the 5Th june 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.. Also the End of May Bank holiday will be moved to the 4th June.

Happy days

Since I posted this over a year ago it has been by far the largest number of clicks I have had from Google.!!  As a result I thought it might be a good idea for me to provide a little more info as it has now become more clear as to what will be happening.

School closures

Schools in England and Wales will be able to close on Tuesday 5 June 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

If a school is already closed on 5 June for half term or another reason, it will be able to close on a different day.

A Diamond Jubilee Pageant will take place at Windsor Castle in May 2012. Buckingham Palace is coordinating a programme of events over the long weekend, including:

  • Big Jubilee Lunches
  • a River Pageant on the Thames
  • a concert at Buckingham Palace
  • the lighting of 2012 beacons throughout the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family will also attend a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Many more events will happening during 2012 for the Jubilee and then we’ll have the Olympics!!

Seven Hills Road Gas Replacement UPDATE. 0

For all residents affected by the proposed closure of Seven Hills Road, Cobham, Surrey by Souther Gas Networks.

I have just been informed of the following by Souther Gas Networks

UPDATE: We have worked closely with Surrey County Council and have listened to the concerns of residents and road users regarding this project. As a result, a revised programme of work has been planned, including closures of Seven Hills Road for certain periods during the Christmas/New Year, Easter and summer holidays. Additional work will take place outside these dates but will not result in road closures.
The outline of the planned programme of work, which will begin on 28th December, is shown below.

28/12/09 – 03/01/10: Seven Hills Road closed and lane restrictions on Byfleet Road. Seven Hills Road will reopen on 04/01/10

04/01/10 – 31/01/10: Lane restrictions in Seven Hills Road South

15/03/10 – 11/04/10: Lane restrictions on Queens Road Roundabout

29/03/10 – 11/04/10: Seven Hills Road closed. The road will reopen on 12/04/10

20/06/10 – 29/08/10: Seven Hills Road closed. The road will reopen on 30/08/10

While we realise that our work will still cause disruption, we are working hard to try and minimise this and will make every effort to complete this project as soon as we can.

During the closures of Seven Hills Road, through traffic will need to use a diversionary route via Queens Road, Esher Bypass, Copsem Lane and the A3 and vice versa. Access to residents, businesses and the school in Seven Hills Road will be maintained throughout and we will be working seven days a week and extended hours where it is safe and possible to do so.

Traffic Managment:

The merge area of two busy motorways constituted a bottleneck and a saftey hazard.  Located safely within a cross hatched area, a High Level vehicle was used to observe driver behaviour and traffic volumes.  The findings from the survey were used to help improve the design of the junctions.
